Students gathered at Atwood Memorial Center on Wednesday, October 7, for a button making activity hosted by the Women’s Center and LGBT Resource Center. The event gave students an opportunity to create personalized buttons while spending time with others in a relaxed environment.
The event was held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Room 220. Tables were filled with colorful markers, paper, drawing materials and other supplies. Students could choose their own designs and create buttons based on their interests and personal preferences.
Throughout the afternoon, students worked on different designs using a variety of colors and patterns. Some created simple drawings while others added more details to their artwork. Once their designs were complete they could use the button making machine to turn their artwork into finished buttons.
Students worked together around a large table, sharing supplies and talking as they completed their works. The setting allowed participants to work at their own pace and enjoy the activity without following a specific design.
The event also gave students a chance to take a break from their daily academic responsibilities. Instead of focusing on classes and assignments, participants could spend time on creative activities and interact with other students.
Button-making allowed students to express their ideas in a simple and personal way. Each design was different, showing how participants used the same materials to create something that reflected their own interests. The activity was open to students of all skill levels. Participants did not need previous experience with arts and crafts, making it easy for anyone to join and take part.
By the end of the afternoon, participants had the opportunity to take home buttons they had designed themselves. The event highlighted how a simple creative activity can help students connect with others and enjoy a break from their busy schedules.
