The 2026 season for the St. Cloud State Huskies Men’s Basketball team will be remembered as one defined by chemistry, resilience, and a shared commitment that translated into real success on and off the court.

From the opening tip of the season, it was clear that this group had something special. The Huskies consistently played with energy and discipline, stacking wins and proving themselves as legitimate contenders. But beyond the record, what stood out most was the unity within the locker room, something players say made all the difference.

“I think the key to our success definitely was how all 15 guys constantly stayed bought in to what coach asked of us,” said Azayah Washington. “And then I would just say the bond everyone has as well.”

That buy-in showed up in every phase of the game. Whether it was defensive intensity, unselfish ball movement, or contributions from players up and down the roster, St. Cloud State operated like a complete team rather than relying on any one individual. That balance made them difficult to beat and allowed them to handle adversity throughout the season.

KJ Morris echoed that sentiment, pointing to the relationships built both on and off the court.

“I would say our connection and the way we bonded on and off the court as teammates and also the connection with our coaches was a big part of our success,” Morris said.

That connection helped fuel an undefeated season at home, a deep playoff run and a season that set a high standard for the program moving forward. The Huskies didn’t just compete, they established a new identity.

Now, as the offseason begins, the focus naturally shifts toward what’s next. And if early indications are any sign, expectations aren’t dropping anytime soon.

“For next season I’m looking forward to getting back to the tournament and winning a national tournament,” Washington said.
Morris added, “I’m looking forward to topping the amazing season we had this year.”

With a strong core expected to return and a culture already firmly in place, the Huskies will enter next season not just hoping to replicate their success, but to build on it. The foundation has been laid, and if this past season proved anything, it’s that this group knows exactly what it takes to win.

The bar has been raised in St. Cloud. Now the challenge is reaching even higher.
