With trash bags in hand and a shared sense of purpose, members of the Student Veteran Organization also known as SVO led a campus clean-up that brought students together to make a visible difference.

On Monday, April 13 and Tuesday, April 14 students apart from SVO chose to team up with those willing, to clean up the Saint Cloud State campus. SVO is an organization that is meant not only for those who are veterans but for anyone who has ever been in connection
with one.

Kristin Hughes, the director of the Veterans Resource Center says the students came up with this idea all on their own at their meetings they host every other week. “It’s really nice to see them be different from groups in the past to not only be able to connect here in the veteran resource office but also outside on campus,” said Hughes.

With earth day being around the corner there were other reasons for this cleanupconnections beyond campus “we hosted the cleanup to make our campus look presentable for not only our students but community as well” said Mustafa Mohamed a
citizen soldier here at SCSU. “The reason I joined SVO was because people weren’t as active and I believe that it would be better for us younger people to take over and get more involved,” Mohamed said.

Brianna, a student here at SCSU just walking into the office curious about the benefits of the veteran’s resource center because both her parents are veterans. Is now a member of the SVO and she said “It’s more comfortable being around those that have grown up around those in the military. It makes me be able to have someone to relate to when I talk about certain things. Brianna said she joined because both parents are a part of the military.

The SVO is another great student organization we have here on campus, and they have done much more great things like helping with the veteran’s parade and even doing a fundraiser with the cession stands at a hockey game. It was great getting in contact with them and hope to see you all at the next campus clean up.
